The play has been recognized by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, the Government of Kenya's Ministry of Health, the New Zealand Government's Te Whatu Ora and Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand, NIH and the United States National Library of Medicine, among others.

The play is frequently the subject of scholarly work, from publications in Association for Theatre in Higher Education's academic journal, Theatre Topics, to University of Florida's theatre curriculum, from the American Psychiatric Association Annual Meeting to medical humanities symposia at Mayo Clinic and Stanford Medicine, and graduate dissertations from the Netherlands to Tanzania to Mexico.
